current mood: sleepy
So I am working on my final thesis for my Masters: Social Media and its Impact on Emergency Management. It figures that I am grasping at straws to get the last ounce of motivation I have in order to finish it. I have a ton of information, but it is putting it on paper in a legible way that is being a PITA. Grumble. I also have to take a Law and Homeland Security class that focuses primarily upon the Constitution and how current homeland security operations fit into that apparatus. Very interesting, but also a great deal of reading. I have weekly papers for that course, too. Plus, bigger papers every three weeks or so on top of that. Yay! Not.
All in all, though, this is a rather light semester considering the last two I've had. I am hoping to pound out a rough draft of this thesis by the end of June and my final before August. Fingers crossed. Hoping to keep my 4.0 GPA, too. We'll see. Back to muttering over this paper....
Whee, finished my latest semester yesterday. I start my last one on the 28th, and will be done by August 2nd. This was a pretty grueling semester with long assignments, lots of writing, and tons of reading. I am relieved to be done with it. Now I have my final thesis to write and a law class and then I graduate. I am both worried and excited about the prospect of finishing up, to be honest. Hopefully this Masters can help me squeeze into a nice governmental job. I really want to work down in D.C. since the there is a train nearby that travels there. We'll see come Fall. Dun dun duuuuuun.
I am pretty sure most everyone has heard about valerie_z. I just wanted to post how much I am going to miss reading her fictional stories and her real-life shenanigans. My sister bailunrui introduced me to her work when I got into my first fandom (Buffy) and I have been a fan ever since. The world is a much darker place without her snark, wit, and kindness.
So as an Android user and an open source software (OSS) enthusiast, I have been really interested in the outcome of the Google vs Oracle trial. Here is a really well-written blow-by-blow account on the trial (and it's updated daily): http://www.groklaw.net/index.php . Very interesting stuff- even if you aren't a lawyer or a tech-y type of person.
Wow, what a blah year 2011 turned out to be. Although I started grad school in the Fall and aced my courses, the year has been pretty mediocre. The death of my grandfather definitely makes the year one I will remember in a not-so-positive light.
And I am surprised my Twitter crossposting has been so erratic. Stupid service is being troublesome. Oh well. I haven't updated my LJ in so long because, honestly, nothing of importance has really happened. Hell, I depress myself even thinking about my daily routine before I restarted school and writing it out would only exacerbate the issue.
So yes, I am alive. I really hope 2012 is better than 2011.
