The Blacklist and Sleepy Hollow
current mood: sleepy
Yes, yes, I know I am late to the party. Don't worry, there aren't any spoilers. Nonetheless, I'll hide my entries under a cut anyway just in case.
I recently saw the first two episodes of The Blacklist. I think that the second episode was much better than the first, and I can see that everyone seemed to start settling into their roles. James Spader is rather interesting as Red (though I feel he is over-acting quite a bit). I definitely have some qualms in regards to some plot points and some of the writing, but I will reserve judgement until enough episodes air for it to really hit its creative stride (I usually see quarter-season to mid-season as the benchmark). I'll likely wait to marathon some episodes later in the season.
I also saw the pilot for Sleepy Hallow. Damn... what a fun, ridiculous, and interesting show! It is completely implausible and gleefully campy, and I love that it is aware of those characteristics without resorting to winking at the audience. Was it perfect? Hell no. But it was entertaining, and that is enough for me. I am going to wait until the finale on January 20th and just marathon the entire season at once. My fingers are crossed that subsequent episodes remain as fun as the pilot.
